As I continue my journey in this curious realm, I am increasingly struck by the dream-like imagery of every moment, each unfolding like a chapter in an otherworldly novel. From an invisible hand directing the eclipse path through bible-inspired towns to the breathtaking sight of the Horned Devil Comet with its swirling blue-green tail, this world never fails to astound me. The divine Book of Life is wide open and reveals its content in all we see. In this ever-changing story, I often find myself torn between closing my eyes in search of solace or embracing the bewildering spectacle that is life on Earth.
The language of astrology, with its powerful symbols and narratives, serves as a constant reminder of the inevitability of change. During eclipse season, this truth becomes even more palpable. As the cosmic river keeps flowing, the solar eclipse draws the great web of fate into its mesmerizing vortex like a whirlpool in the starry sky. Heralding new beginnings and profound developments for individuals and civilizations alike; in the timeless moment of totality, we are all held in awe. It is a time to reflect on our place within and beyond the vast expanse of reality, humbled by the magnitude of the unknown.
Here, the eternal struggle between Light and Dark unfolds before our eyes, urging us to confront our own inner battles. In many subtle as well as obvious ways, I see humanity’s Great Work unfold amidst the many challenges we face. I couldn’t resist mentioning a few phenomena concurring with today’s total solar eclipse.
All the World's a Stage…
NASA, apparently inspired by ancient rites, will be aiming an unholy trinity of rockets toward the Sun, under the guise of Apep, a deity from ancient Egyptian mythology. Often depicted as a giant serpent or dragon, Apep - aka Apophis - represents chaos, darkness, and evil. He was considered the greatest enemy of the Sun god, Ra. Now, I know NASA likes to play cryptic games for those who have eyes to see, but regardless of their intentions, it all boils down to the mimicking of rituals performed by our ancestors.
In ancient China, for example, people believed that a dragon was devouring the Sun during a solar eclipse. To frighten away the creature and restore sunlight, people engaged in loud activities such as banging drums, pots, and pans, as well as shooting arrows into the sky. Similarly, Norse mythology tells of the wolf Fenrir who was said to swallow the Sun, causing temporary darkness. To frighten away the wolf and release the Sun, Vikings would make loud noises, including howling and banging on drums.
CERN, while maintaining that the timing of the experiment on April 8th is merely coincidental, is poised to undertake research aimed at uncovering invisible particles that they believe to hold the key to unraveling the mysteries of our universe, more particularly, the realm of dark matter.
… And We Are Merely Players
Whether by design or happenstance, as the fictional character Dr. Ellie Arroway famously remarked, “The cosmic ballet goes on.” Every individual inescapably contributes to the perennial saga, participating in the timeless battle between Light and Dark.
Embracing it willingly or not, we find ourselves thrust onto the surreal stage of existence, compelled to perform our roles. Our involvement in this mundane drama transcends the bounds of free will. Thus, the question arises: What purpose have you come to fulfill, and how will you navigate your part in this unfolding narrative?
Since this total eclipse appears to have such mythic proportions, I pondered the origin of the word 'eclipse'. Derived from the Greek word ἔκλειψις it is an abandonment, a failing or forsaking that echoes the poignant cry of Jesus on the cross, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
In the darkest hour, we are left to grapple with our own humanity. Yet, in the temple of Aries, amidst the relentless march of Mars, there is courage to be found. For even in the face of darkness, we can choose to fight the sacred battle against ignorance and evil, guided by our own inner light.
Slaying the Dragon
How will you kill the dragon that threatens to extinguish your inner light?
The Sun’s host, Mars, is well-prepared for potential emergencies. In a close adherence to Saturn, no stone will be left unturned. A touch of diligence goes a long way. Drawing upon a wealth of inner resources, Mars gladly compensates for the temporary lack of Sol’s light. Be willing to shine your light, unfiltered, and without inhibition!
Venus, in a mixed mutual reception with Mars, gracefully cooperates as best as she can while braving the warrior god’s fiery terrain. Extending her support amidst the tumult of the moment, she leads the way and strives to mend what has been fractured. Her efforts, though perhaps unneeded or initially resisted, emanate from a place of boundless compassion.
Cherishing this momentum, Mercury happily assists by providing his key to the neglected mental junk drawer that is eagerly awaiting to be decluttered. Keep in mind that melodramatic scenes could unfold when your or someone else’s attempts to glue broken pieces back together meet with underwhelming reactions or plain rejection.
On the sidelines, Jupiter and Uranus engage in a cordial bear hug, balancing on their shared golden soapbox of freedom. Like a living monument, they aspire hope and reassure us that all will be well, no matter what.
Ultimately, the crux of this event perhaps transcends all questions about what the eclipse “means” or what will happen. What truly holds significance is our ensouled anticipation of the eclipse. When faced with the spiritual essence of Life, humanity’s inner beauty shines forth, revealing our deep yearning for love, liberation, and enlightenment. Our participation mystique truly conquers everything!
I was unaware of the CERN experiment today. Coincidence! Really?
"Ultimately, the crux of this event perhaps transcends all questions about what the eclipse “means” or what will happen. What truly holds significance is our ensouled anticipation of the eclipse."
And thusly treated, Michelle. Such a delicious piece of writing as well as a much needed metta view of the dragon skydance WITHOUT hyperbole. It feels closer to my experience of this portal because you leave room for us to have our own intimate moment with fate. Thank you!
