Greetings, dear friends of the stars! I’ve made my life a little easier by abandoning my 90s-looking Newmoonsletter format and using Substack instead. This means that you’ll also be able to leave a comment and “heart” my posts (and I love those!) And, yes, I’m throwing in some art here and there.
My “chart of the month” will be posted to our astro-zine Astrum Opus, from now on, but I’ll make sure to leave a link to it. Read my latest exploration of Andy Kaufman’s chart here. The next one will be published on Astrum Opus at the end of the month.I’m excited about this new chapter, and where it will take me. I’m sure everything and everyone will start looking a little different with Pluto pouring some newness into the Water-Bearer’s jug… And now, on to the New Moon!
New Moon - 20° Aquarius - February 9
Gathering in the ethereal realm of Aquarius where the boundary between the land and the restless sea stands firm, Luna encounters the Sun upon the rocky shores of progress. With a solid deliberateness, new arrangements are orchestrated to accommodate futuristic visions. Any work, neglected and lingering, craves containment and closure. Saturn, the dark deity of endings, can offer finales even at the inception of a new lunation cycle. The slate needs to be wiped clean before a new start can occur!
Are you holding on to any remnants festering within the recesses of your mind's attic? Confront them with finality. Discard, expel, purge them. Pluto, the grand custodian of renewal, and Uranus, the willful rebel, stand ready to facilitate your breakup with the past.
Setting in motion the glorious gears of fortune, Luna feels invigorated to embrace a new dawn. If only to hear the sweet sound of destruction, she yearns to break something. A desire to revel in forbidden realms pervades her poise.
Make a list of at least three things that you would like to break or break away from. Practice saying “no” and imagine them leaving your life one by one. What new possibilities open up for you?
A mysterious contra-antiscion emerges between the Lights and Jupiter. In Taurus, Jupiter may speak to the subtle currents of this syzygy. Symbolizing a hidden resistance against a placid Zeus in Taurus, the New Aquarian Moon, encouraged by Mercury’s company, inquisitively explores exciting taboos and controversies. Sol, exiled in Aquarius, feels like a stranger in an unfamiliar land. Adrift, and not knowing in which direction to shine his brilliant rays, he too seeks solace in unconventional ideas and experimentation. The only reason to learn the rules is so that we can break them.
With Saturn at the steering wheel, some of the new ideas we’re dealing with may be extreme, a theme echoed by Uranus’ trine aspect to the Lights. Unrestrained within Pisces' boundless imagination, Saturn delights in brushing against the extremities. The wisdom that each concept harbors its polar opposite reverberates through this Aquarian alignment.
With none of the planets in any Fire signs, the divine spark igniting noble pursuits wanes. Intentions might lack the required faith or they tend to stem from a place of fierce skepticism.
Be clear about your motivations. You don’t need to be a saint, but your honesty must be brutal.
Venus and Mars, ascending the craggy peaks of Capricorn, kindle the flames of impassioned reckoning with their raw vigor. Mars, at the last stages of his exalted status, makes up for a lack of Fire and is ready to get involved in Aquarian matters with full force, when he joins the Water Pourer’s club on February 13.
Drawing closer to the Sun, Hermes veils himself in obscurity while squaring the great sage, Jupiter. This calls for fresh philosophical vistas and alternative perspectives. When trying out new paradigms to sculpt a better quality of life, taking a step back into the safe haven of detachment may prove wholesome. Less entanglement provides a balm to the soul.
"Be less concerned," whispers this month’s message. Can you hear it?
I'm sorry some of you have received this twice. I have no patience, I admit. I pressed "send". Nothing happened, so I clicked again. That's what I'm like. ;)
Beautiful words for this Pluto-Uranium Moon swimming in Saturn's cosmic homeland. You are an exquisite Mage of Imagery, Michelle!
